Climate change affects numerous facets of our environment, including both wild and cultivated ecosystems. At Nottingham, we conduct studies to comprehend historical climate patterns, their driving factors, and their influence on flora and fauna throughout evolutionary history. By examining the past, we gain insights into how climate shifts will affect both natural habitats and the agricultural systems humans depend on.

Our research also investigates current ecological impacts of climate change, from Arctic permafrost thaw to tropical forest warming and UK farming practices. Through this work, we highlight nature's critical role in climate solutions, as ecosystems provide vital mitigation strategies and enhance climate resilience.

Our ecological research covers diverse subjects, from microscopic organisms to large mammals like elephants. We advance both theoretical understanding and practical knowledge of natural systems, frequently connecting our findings to human-caused challenges such as farming impacts, contamination, and ecological transformations.
