Tailored for individuals passionate about exploring American history and historical research, this program is housed in a department known for its interdisciplinary expertise, fostering innovative perspectives on American history. The American Studies and History PhD primarily consists of self-directed study, complemented by periodic supervision sessions throughout the academic year.
This doctoral program requires a minimum of three years of full-time or six years of part-time guided research, culminating in a 100,000-word dissertation on your selected topic. Your research focus will be determined in collaboration with your supervisory team (typically two co-supervisors). Additionally, you'll participate in an oral defense known as a viva voce, presenting your work comprehensively to an examination committee.
Academic community engagement
You'll participate in research methodology workshops and weekly graduate seminars showcasing ongoing projects, organized by the student research community. These sessions provide a platform to share your developing research with fellow students, advisors, and invited faculty members. The initiative aims to cultivate constructive feedback and academic collaboration within this supportive environment.
