Photography and cinema emerged as groundbreaking mediums that revolutionized how people experienced visual content. Our study examines their roles within distinct historical contexts: the United States during the mid-1900s, Rome in the 1800s, and Italy in the mid-20th century. We focus on creators (photographers, artists, reporters), viewers, and the diverse formats these mediums utilized—from personal to public, from oppositional to mainstream. Different research avenues investigate the ongoing discussions about whether photography and film should be considered artistic forms.
