The Modern Languages postcolonial studies program at Nottingham is an interdisciplinary research field that combines anthropology, economics, political science, historical studies, sociology, literary analysis, and cultural examination. Our focus encompasses the colonial connections between France, Germany, Spain, and Portugal and their former territories in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and French-speaking Canada. We investigate the enduring cultural impacts of colonialism both abroad (in former colonies) and within Europe, applying postcolonial approaches to cultural analysis, along with reconsidering European imperial history through a postcolonial lens.
