Our four-year BEng in Product Design and Manufacture features an industrial placement year, offering students hands-on experience in design or related fields. This program blends creative thinking with engineering fundamentals, equipping students with essential skills for design-oriented careers. Our environment presents countless challenges, from minor inconveniences to major global issues like climate change. Product Designers merge creative, engineering, and manufacturing expertise to develop market-ready solutions for these challenges. The curriculum incorporates cutting-edge technology—from digital sketching to advanced 3D printing, rapid prototyping, and virtual reality tools—ensuring graduates are ready for today's product design landscape. Students explore diverse modules to build practical design abilities and expertise in manufacturing, materials, ergonomics, marketing, and other key areas. Project-based learning forms a core component, addressing real-world challenges across medical, automotive, packaging, appliance, electronics, and other industries. These projects encourage practical design approaches, applying manufacturing knowledge and engineering principles to create mass-producible components while considering commercial viability. Industry-experienced academics and practicing Product Designers collaborate to deliver our curriculum, maintaining employer-relevant content. Career Prospects You'll acquire both practical and theoretical capabilities for developing marketable products and services in industrial design. Your skillset will adapt to small design consultancies or large multinational corporations. Strong communication, problem-solving, and creative thinking abilities also open doors to various alternative career paths. Maths is required.
Art or design and technology are also desirable as 2nd subjects for the course but are not required.
It is possible to transfer to the MEng during the course subject to satisfactory progression.

Excluded subjects
We do not accept the following A Levels: General Studies, Critical Thinking, Citizenship Studies, CIE Global Perspectives and Research, CIE Thinking Skills.

30 Points overall or 655 in 3 Higher Level Certificates
Consequently, we treat all applicants with alternative qualifications (besides A-levels and the International Baccalaureate) on an individual basis and we gladly accept students with a whole range of less conventional qualifications including:

Following the meeting, for those considered for year one entry, our typical offer is as follows:
RQF Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma in Engineering: DDD including Distinction in units -
RQF BTEC Extended Diploma plus A Level Maths: DDDin BTEC plus A Level Maths Grade B
RQF BTEC Diploma plus A Level Maths: DD in BTEC plus A Level Maths Grade B
RQF BTEC National Extended Certificate plus 2 A Levels: Distinction in BTEC plus A Level grades BB including Maths
Access to HE Diploma
Following the meeting, for those considered for year one entry, our typical offer is as follows:
Access to HE Diploma 30 Level 3 credits at Distinction (to include a minimum of 15 Level 3 credits at Distinction in Mathematics and 15 Level 3 credits at Distinctions in Engineering/Science units) and 15 Level 3 credits at Merit.
English language requirements
IELTS: 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each element)
TOEFL (iBT): 80 (with a minimum of 17 in writing and listening, 18 in reading and 20 in speaking)
