If the diverse cultures of the Americas intrigue you—from the United States and Canada to Spanish-speaking nations and Brazil—this program offers the perfect opportunity for exploration.
You'll delve into Spanish language studies while examining the histories, literary works, and cultural traditions across the U.S., Canada, and numerous Latin American countries.
By comparing different regions of the Americas—including the U.S., Canada, and Latin America—you'll gain comprehensive insights into their interconnected histories, cultural exchanges, literary movements, and political dynamics.
The program accommodates both Spanish beginners and advanced learners. Beginners may start with no prior knowledge or just GCSE-level Spanish, while those with A-level proficiency can opt for introductory Portuguese in their first year, continuing through graduation to specialize in Brazilian studies.
Our Hispanic Studies curriculum includes non-language modules focusing on Latin America's history, political systems, and cultural evolution, including the colonial eras of Spanish and Portuguese expansion.
Within American Studies, you'll explore the historical developments, political frameworks, literary achievements, and cultural expressions of English-speaking North America.
