Our PhD/MPhil Cognitive Neuroscience program allows you to pursue a research initiative aimed at advancing knowledge in Cognitive Neuroscience. This vibrant and evolving research domain explores the neural foundations of human thought, emotion, and behavior. Our investigations concentrate on uncovering the biological processes underlying these sophisticated neuropsychological functions. Manchester's diverse research strengths focus on examining cognition in both healthy brains and those affected by neurological and psychiatric conditions. A key objective of our work involves developing clinical applications for treating neuropsychiatric conditions that manifest throughout life. While human cognition remains our principal focus, we also employ complementary animal models to study these processes at the neuronal level. Manchester research emphasizes the crucial combination of behavioral analysis with state-of-the-art techniques for monitoring and influencing brain activity (including MRI, fMRI, MEG, EEG, and transcranial magnetic stimulation).
