Our PhD/MPhil program in Biomaterials Science and Dental Technology allows you to pursue a research project that advances knowledge in these fields. This discipline encompasses various biomaterials used in operative dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, orthodontics, and oral surgery, along with studies on orthopaedic bone cements. Key research focuses include photo-polymerization processes, adhesion mechanisms, visco-elastic properties, surface analysis techniques, X-ray microtomography, and diverse composite biomaterial behaviors. The Biomaterials Science facilities feature state-of-the-art equipment for cutting-edge research. Located at the heart of our expansive campus, these labs provide access to specialized instruments and expertise across disciplines like photon science, chemistry, cell biology, and materials science. Our multidisciplinary approach combines experimental and computational biomechanics with advanced imaging and spectroscopic methods to examine micro/nano-scale structures and time-dependent characteristics. This comprehensive methodology provides deeper insights into the clinical performance of biomaterials. Additional research areas explore implant surface properties, bioglass development, and dentine occlusion techniques.
