Our doctoral program in Russian and East European Studies allows you to conduct groundbreaking original research under expert academic guidance. Faculty members pursue interdisciplinary research spanning diverse topics such as: 19th-20th century literature and intellectual history, Soviet/post-Soviet film and media, gender studies, memory studies, nationalism and ethnic politics throughout history and in the post-communist era, and post-communist transitions in East Central Europe. The Russian and East European Studies program forms the core of our Cross-Disciplinary Russian and Eurasian Studies Network, promoting collaborative research and graduate education among humanities faculty at Manchester. Current externally-funded faculty research includes projects like: "Reframing Russia for the Global Mediasphere: From Cold War to Information War" (AHRC), "Russian Nationalism and the Ukraine Crisis: Nationalist Influences on Foreign Policy" (European Commission), and "Self-Sustained Civil Society in Eastern (and Western) Europe" (British Academy).

Bachelor's (Honours) degree at 2:1 or above (or overseas equivalent), and
Master's degree in a relevant subject with an overall average of 65% or above, a minimum mark of 65% in your dissertation and no mark below 55% (or overseas equivalent)

IELTS test minimum score 7.0 overall, 7.0 in writing.
TOEFL (internet based) test minimum score 100 overall, 25 in all sections.
Pearson Test of English (PTE) UKVI/SELT or PTE Academic minimum score 76 overall, 76 in writing.
