The University of Manchester's Physics and Astronomy Department ranks among the UK's biggest and most dynamic physics faculties. With a distinguished history of outstanding academic and investigative work, we engage with nearly all modern research fields.
Our Department plays a key role in several Manchester interdisciplinary research hubs: The National Graphene Institute, the Photon Science Institute, the Manchester Centre for Non-Linear Dynamics, and the Dalton Nuclear Institute. We also oversee the Jodrell Bank Observatory in Cheshire as part of our facilities.
Nuclear physics explores the composition and behavior of atomic nuclei. This discipline seeks solutions to fundamental questions about cosmic evolution, stellar lifecycles, and particle interactions. Our studies yield practical benefits across multiple sectors, including healthcare, national security, and energy generation.
