Our History PhD program spans three years of full-time study (or six years part-time), allowing you to conduct specialized research in your chosen field. Our faculty's expertise covers historical periods from the early medieval era through the late 20th century, with geographical focus extending across Britain, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. You'll develop your thesis with support from two dedicated supervisors, while a research panel (including an independent reviewer) provides regular progress assessments and guidance on professional development. The program cultivates independent research skills, actively encouraging students to present at academic events and publish in reputable venues. Completion requires an original 80,000-word dissertation that advances historical scholarship.
