The MRes Medical Sciences program is crafted to help bridge the skills gap between recent medical graduates and the competencies needed for a clinical academic career. This program provides medical and dental science students and graduates with essential research skills and knowledge for pursuing academic medicine. While emphasizing medical research over biological sciences, our students' projects cover diverse areas including basic, clinical, and epidemiological research across various medical specialties. We encourage applications from intercalating medical and dental students (after Year 3 or 4) as well as other qualified candidates. Combining both taught and research elements, this program is ideal for individuals with minimal or no prior research experience. For many participants, the MRes Medical Sciences serves as their initial foray into medical research.

Qualification Requirements
We welcome applications from intercalating medical and dental students from The University of Manchester and other UK institutions, as well as medical and dental graduates and international medical graduates who can demonstrate relevant experience and commitment to biomedical research.
Intercalating students at Manchester are required to have satisfactory achievement in Years 1 to 3 or 4 of the MBChB course. For University of St Andrews students studying at Manchester, this includes the three-year degree and the following one or two years spent in Manchester (Years 3 and 4 of the Manchester MBChB course).
