Launch your career in mechatronic engineering at Manchester, an institution renowned for its engineering legacy and forward-thinking vision. Mechatronics combines mechanical engineering with advanced electronics, playing a crucial role in fields like industrial automation and robotics. For a mechatronic system to interact with an object, it must identify the object's location, manipulate it, and position it accurately. This requires electronic sensors to gather data on position, orientation, and visual or auditory cues. The system then processes these electrical inputs and sends commands to actuators to execute the desired actions. Proficiency in feedback control is essential to ensure smooth transitions between states without instability or erratic behavior. Through this program, you'll master the skills needed to design and build sophisticated mechatronic systems. Your final year will include an industry-sponsored or industry-inspired team project. Previous initiatives have ranged from designing a sensor-equipped training wheelchair for para-athletes to building the foundation for a robotic orchestra and implementing secure smart-grid solutions for urban environments.
