Our MA in Classics and Ancient History offers a versatile and comprehensive curriculum. It encompasses the diverse, interdisciplinary scope of the field, covering Latin and Greek languages, the historical study of Greek and Roman civilizations from ancient periods through the early Middle Ages, along with their literature, philosophy, and cultural heritage. This program prepares you for higher-level academic work while developing essential skills for PhD-level research. You can customize your advanced studies and research preparation based on your interests, goals, and prior knowledge. A specialized option within this MA is the City of Rome track, which includes a unit at the British School at Rome preceded by coursework on Roman social and urban history. While we encourage all students to engage with Greek or Latin at their proficiency level, no prior language experience is necessary—we support students beginning their ancient language studies during the MA program.
