The fields of sociology and linguistics are fundamentally interconnected. Understanding society requires examining language, just as analyzing language necessitates considering its social framework. This program will push you to explore the structure of our social environments and how linguistic and cultural elements construct and influence these realms. You'll examine both societal structures and transformations, ranging from how inequalities persist across social divisions (like race, class, or gender) to how broader cultural settings affect personal connections. You'll enhance your language proficiency while gaining insights into the associated cultures and histories. During the third year of this four-year course, you'll complete a residency overseas, either studying or working in a nation where your target language is spoken. Our objective is to cultivate your analytical, research, and language capabilities, preparing you to become autonomous thinkers and investigators proficient in both English and an additional language.
