The fields of sociology and languages are fundamentally interconnected. Understanding society requires examining language, just as language study must consider its social setting. This program will push you to analyze the social structures we inhabit and explore how language and culture construct these realities. You'll investigate societal dynamics and transformation, covering topics from systemic inequalities tied to social identities (including race, class, and gender) to cultural influences on personal relationships. Alongside developing high-level language proficiency, you'll gain insight into associated cultures and histories. During the third year of this four-year course, you'll complete an overseas residency, either studying or working in a nation where your target language is spoken. We strive to cultivate your analytical, research, and language capabilities, preparing you to become autonomous thinkers and scholars proficient in both English and an additional language.
