The fields of sociology and languages are fundamentally interconnected. Understanding society requires examining language, just as studying language necessitates considering its social framework. This program will push you to analyze the structure of our social environments and explore how language and culture construct and influence these realms. You'll examine both societal structures and transformations, ranging from how inequalities persist across social divisions (like race, class, or gender) to how broader cultural settings affect personal relationships. Alongside building advanced linguistic abilities, you'll gain insights into the cultures and histories tied to your chosen language. During the third year of this four-year course, you'll complete a residency abroad, either studying or working in a nation where your target language is spoken. Our objective is to cultivate your analytical, research, and language capabilities, preparing you to become autonomous thinkers and scholars proficient in both English and an additional language.
