Our BA in Linguistics and Sociology offers an exploration of human language and social connections. In Linguistics, you'll examine global languages, investigating their sounds, structures, and evolution. Key topics include language origins and extinction, first language acquisition, second language learning, gender differences in speech, group communication dynamics, and language contact phenomena. You'll gain hands-on experience analyzing large language datasets using quantitative methods - a transferable skill with lifelong applications. The Sociology component equips you to critically examine modern social issues. You'll learn to evaluate social theories based on evidence while studying diverse subjects like inequality patterns (race, class, gender), cultural influences on personal relationships, and societal responses to economic changes. The program develops analytical tools to understand both language systems and human social behavior.
