The BA in Film Studies and English Literature is designed to deepen your appreciation of this artistic field while exploring diverse historical and theoretical viewpoints. In Film Studies, you'll broaden your cinematic knowledge through structured courses and screenings featuring both classic and modern films from global traditions. The program examines both mainstream and independent cinema to provide a comprehensive view of film history and contemporary discussions influencing the medium's evolution. Through detailed analysis, you'll learn how films reflect and engage with social, cultural, and political issues, considering both their historical settings and future directions. This course focuses on academic study rather than hands-on production. In English Literature, you'll discover over a millennium of literary heritage, spanning from medieval tales to contemporary postcolonial works. Specializations include American, Irish, and postcolonial literature, cultural theory, creative writing, and film studies. You'll analyze various forms of expression across different eras, supported by our vibrant research community with expertise ranging from ancient texts to modern media. Creative writing electives become available during your second and third years.
