This BA program in Film Studies and Archaeology allows you to examine cinema through various historical and theoretical lenses while investigating archaeological periods from the Palaeolithic era to modern times. The curriculum combines instructional modules with film screenings, featuring both classic and contemporary works from diverse global cinematic traditions. You'll analyze mainstream and alternative films to expand your knowledge of cinema's evolution, along with the discussions and controversies influencing today's filmmaking and its trajectory. The program also explores how films interact with social, cultural, and political issues, situating cinematic works within their historical frameworks while considering contemporary discourse and future media challenges. Focusing on analytical rather than production-based approaches, the course fosters independent critical thinking through varied assessments including individual papers, presentations, and select collaborative or creative projects that apply theoretical concepts.
