The BA in English Literature and German offers you the chance to study diverse texts spanning centuries while building strong German language skills. This program allows you to delve into German culture, linguistics, history, and literature, preparing you to excel in German-speaking settings. In English Literature, you'll discover over a millennium of literary works - from medieval tales to contemporary postcolonial and postmodern pieces. Specialization options include English, American, Irish, and post-colonial literatures, cultural theory, creative writing, and film studies. The curriculum covers various genres, including film, music, and texts from the Anglo-Saxon era to modern times. Take advantage of our vibrant English and American Studies research community, featuring over 12 active research groups exploring everything from Old English literature to 21st-century works and cinema. Creative writing electives become available during your second and third years.

Contextual offer BBB, including A in English Literature or English Language and Literature for applicants who meet our contextual offer criteria GCSE Applicants must demonstrate a broad general education including acceptable levels of Literacy and Numeracy, equivalent to at least Grade C or 4 in GCSE/iGCSE English Language and Mathematics. GCSE/iGCSE English Literature will not be accepted in lieu of GCSE/iGCSE English Language.
