Our BA in Ancient History and Archaeology lets you blend archaeological methods with the exploration of ancient civilizations' cultures and histories.
Humanity forms the core of our programs, including investigations into how Roman rulers employed architecture for political messaging.

We also apply scientific techniques to analyze artifacts, skeletal remains, and historical landscapes. The curriculum covers Mediterranean empires while examining archaeological sites across Britain, Western Europe, classical civilizations, and the Near East.

You'll have chances to learn ancient languages and participate in professional archaeological digs, mastering both historical and material approaches to antiquity while developing crucial analytical and interpretive skills.

Learn about Ancient Egypt, Ancient Mediterranean empires, and the Greek and Roman worlds alongside the archaeology of Britain and wider Western Europe.

  • Study ancient languages - taking you right from basics or developing existing knowledge to a higher level.
  • Gain hands-on experience through subsidised fieldwork and excavation projects. Previously students have worked at sites in Herefordshire, Yorkshire, Scotland and the Mediterranean.
  • Ranked in top 15 in the UK for both Archaeology, and for Classics and Ancient History (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025).
