As one of the UK's premier biostatistics departments, we combine a strong history of funded research with a dedication to excellence, creating the perfect setting for advancing skills and solutions to address critical health issues in precision medicine, infectious diseases, tissue regeneration, and population health.

Our Department serves as a hub for interdisciplinary collaboration, encompassing specialized units like the Clinical Trials Research Centre and the Medical Research Council North West Hub for Trials Methodology Research.

We currently mentor numerous students working on diverse projects spanning biostatistics and allied health research areas, with researcher development being a core departmental focus.

Our faculty conducts groundbreaking work in statistical genetics, drug response genetics, combined longitudinal/survival analysis, complex data interpretation, spatial statistics, evidence integration, and clinical trial methodology. With consistent funding from major organizations including MRC, Wellcome Trust, Horizon 2020 and NIHR, we maintain our commitment to pioneering both methodological innovation and practical applications.

This dynamic research environment offers exceptional opportunities for postgraduate students to cultivate advanced analytical techniques and apply them to pressing healthcare challenges in personalized medicine, infectious disease control, regenerative therapies, and public health initiatives.
