The MSc in Clinical Ophthalmology and Vision Science is designed for medical students taking an intercalated year, offering comprehensive training in applied knowledge, clinical skills, research methodologies, and professional conduct within ophthalmology and vision science. Developed through collaboration between St Paul's Eye Unit clinicians and academic experts from the Department of Eye and Vision Science, this program explores vision research, disease mechanisms affecting sight, and innovative therapeutic technologies. Students complete three clinical placements along with two longitudinal research components featuring extended modules, with teaching and placements occurring year-round rather than following traditional semesters.
By engaging with integrated clinical ophthalmology and vision science practices, participants develop profound insights into patient care pathways and NHS operational frameworks for ocular health. The curriculum incorporates legal, ethical, and governance aspects of clinical practice, fostering a holistic understanding of these interconnected specialties through practical assessments while exploring future treatment possibilities for patients.
