The MRes program, along with the Latin American Studies MRes and Film Studies MRes, offers a tailored introduction to postgraduate research. It prepares you to become an independent researcher while creating an original project under the guidance of modern languages and cultures experts.
Specializations include Basque studies, Catalan studies, Chinese studies, French studies, German studies, Hispanic studies, Italian studies, Portuguese studies, sociolinguistics, Spanish studies, and translation studies. Your degree title will correspond to your chosen specialization.

The research methodology training is customized for modern languages and cultural studies, aligning with your specific project. You'll receive comprehensive insights into current scholarship in your field while co-creating a personalized reading list and assessment plan leading to a significant research output.
With mentorship from active researchers in the Department of Languages, Culture and Film, you'll learn to formulate research proposals, locate relevant sources, conduct structured investigations, and effectively present your findings.
