With guidance from specialists, you'll create a significant independent research project that advances knowledge in your field and prepares you for doctoral studies.
This MRes program, along with the Latin American Studies MRes and Film Studies MRes, offers a customized pathway into postgraduate research. You'll grow as an independent scholar while developing an original research project with mentorship from modern languages and cultures experts.

Specializations include Basque studies, Catalan studies, Chinese studies, French studies, German studies, Hispanic studies, Italian studies, Portuguese studies, sociolinguistics, Spanish studies, and translation studies. Your degree title will correspond to your chosen specialization.

Regardless of your specialization, this program offers intensive doctoral preparation and career development. We'll support you through the entire research process while building transferable skills in critical analysis, project coordination, communication, and problem-solving.

Your research methods training will focus on modern languages and cultural studies while being adapted to your specific project. You'll receive comprehensive exposure to current scholarship in your field, co-create a personalized reading list, and complete tailored assessments before undertaking your major research work.

Under the supervision of active researchers from the Department of Languages, Culture and Film, you'll learn to formulate research proposals, locate relevant sources, conduct investigations, and effectively present your findings.
