Pursuing Criminology at Liverpool involves tackling today's most debated and pressing societal challenges. Within our department's advanced research setting - renowned for its longstanding impact - you'll receive comprehensive postgraduate training in both theory and practice. This MRes program draws on the distinguished national and international research expertise of faculty from our Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology Department. Over the past five years, our research has influenced criminal justice policies, transformed public sector auditing methods, and set benchmarks for assessing major arts and cultural initiatives.
You'll gain insight into the political dimensions and practical applications of social research. The curriculum examines key elements of the research process including: contemporary academic environments; the social scientist's responsibilities; issues of power, critical analysis, and self-reflection in social sciences; and the challenges, advantages, and boundaries of social science inquiry.
This program specifically equips you to focus on criminological investigation, enhancing your ability to perform sophisticated research on crime-related subjects. The research component provides practical experience valuable for career advancement or professional growth.
Designed for diverse career paths, this program prepares graduates for roles in government agencies (both national and local), commercial research firms, and various nonprofit or private sector organizations. Qualification Requirements

For entry to our MRes we require a minimum of a 2:1 class honours degree in a social science, or in a field relevant to the programme, from a UK university

All applicants are required to supply: a completed application form, proof of qualifications and two references (one of which, as a minimum, must be academic). Applicants are considered on the basis of academic ability and potential and other relevant considerations are also taken into account. Applicants who have marginally missed the benchmark indicated above, are considered on a discretionary basis.
