The Department of Molecular and Clinical Pharmacology offers outstanding prospects for both fundamental and clinical investigations in drug safety science, immuno-pharmacology, precision medicine, nanomedicine, and HIV research. Recognized as one of the UK's top research institutions, the department houses the MRC-funded Centre for Drug Safety Science and the Wolfson Centre for Personalized Medicine.

Our cutting-edge research infrastructure receives support from prestigious funders including the MRC, BBSRC, Wellcome Trust, NIHR, Wolfson Foundation, and EU programs.

We concentrate on studies that explore disease mechanisms, develop therapeutic approaches, and investigate pharmaceutical safety principles. This work ultimately seeks to bridge laboratory discoveries with clinical applications to enhance patient outcomes, public health, and healthcare delivery.

Our specialized research domains include:

Drug Safety Science - Conducting foundational clinical and laboratory studies on adverse drug reactions to optimize medication risk-benefit profiles
Precision Medicine - Investigating individual variations in drug responses
Immuno-pharmacology - Examining drug-immune system interactions to uncover new therapeutic targets
Infectious Disease Pharmacology - Studying molecular factors influencing treatment responses for HIV, tuberculosis, and hepatitis
Nanomedicines - Exploring nanoparticle applications for infectious diseases
Neuropharmacology - Researching neurological disorder mechanisms and developing novel treatments
Drug Safety Science - The MRC Centre for Drug Safety Science, unique in Europe, investigates adverse reaction causes, manifestations, and genetic predispositions to improve diagnosis and management
Personalized Medicine - Through the Wolfson Centre, we identify genetic predictors of drug responses for conditions like cardiovascular disease, asthma, and epilepsy, translating genomic discoveries into clinical practice for better patient care and healthcare efficiency.
