Gastroenterology research offers outstanding prospects for both laboratory and clinical studies centered on understanding gastrointestinal (GI) tract physiology and the development of GI disorders in humans and animals. The Department of Cellular and Molecular Physiology continues a distinguished legacy as a world-renowned hub for investigating core principles of human physiology.
Most laboratory work takes place at the Henry Wellcome Laboratory of Molecular & Cellular Gastroenterology on the University campus, while clinical studies and trials are carried out at the Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospital.
We specialize in translational research: transforming breakthroughs in fundamental medical science into practical clinical applications. Our approach encompasses diverse methodologies, from cellular mechanism investigations using cell lines to patient-oriented research and clinical trials.
