Your postgraduate journey in the Modern and Contemporary Literature MA program will be guided by globally recognized scholars specializing in 20th and 21st century literary works and cultural studies. Our academic focus addresses pivotal modern concerns, such as racial injustice stemming from transatlantic slavery in neo-slave literature, surrealist interpretations of environmental shifts, worldwide feminist movements, the fragility of white identity in American fiction, and the challenges of postmodernism in current literature. The faculty includes acclaimed authors, critics honored with prestigious awards, New Generation Thinkers, and participants in the Global Literatures Research Group.
Your learning experience will be enriched by frequent visits from renowned international authors and poets, organized in collaboration with the Centre for New and International Writing. Previous guest speakers have included literary figures like George Saunders, Neil Gaiman, Nuar Alsadir, and Jay Bernard. The program actively connects with Liverpool's exceptional cultural landmarks, including the Everyman Theatre, International Slavery Museum, Tate Liverpool, and the Liverpool Biennial.
