Chemistry graduates play a central role in scientific advancement, supporting many of the globe's most innovative and thriving industries. This Medicinal Chemistry program serves as an excellent starting point for diverse career options or advanced education. Our BSc curriculum provides the freedom to select elective courses beyond Chemistry. In this program, 25% of your studies will focus on pharmacology and biomedical sciences.

You'll gain comprehensive knowledge across all chemistry disciplines while being introduced to pharmacology, preparing you for various professional directions or postgraduate studies after graduation.

The initial two years mirror the MChem Chemistry with Pharmacology (F1BF) curriculum. Participants engage with specialized modules in biomedical sciences, biological sciences, and medicinal chemistry. The first two years feature rapid advancement through a balanced combination of theoretical and practical coursework to establish strong foundational knowledge.

Recognizing that students arrive with varying mathematical backgrounds (crucial for advanced chemistry study), we offer an adaptable, tiered mathematics course that lets you enhance your skills at an appropriate pace.

During the third year, you'll focus solely on organic chemistry and practical components from the BSc Chemistry (F100) program while undertaking specialized pharmacology modules. These are designed to help you apply chemical and pharmacological principles to pharmaceutical challenges, particularly in drug design and development.
The program includes a year-long industrial placement to gain hands-on experience and familiarity with practical chemistry in professional settings.
If you determine within the first 18 months that you wish to pursue chemistry research, you may switch to either the MChem Chemistry with Pharmacology (F1BF) or MChem Chemistry (F102) programs, provided you maintain a 2:1 average (60%) or higher.
