This program mirrors our three-year BA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics while including an additional industry placement year following the second year. A PPE degree combines three fields essential to public affairs and policymaking. In today's world, economic literacy is crucial for political engagement, while grasping the philosophical foundations of competing political ideologies remains critically valuable. Like the standard three-year version, this course enables students to explore interdisciplinary connections, develop specialized knowledge, gain rigorous training in mathematical economics, and hone analytical skills for assessing the values shaping public discourse. Employers highly value this combination for the diverse expertise and adaptable skills it cultivates.
The first year consists exclusively of required courses: four in Economics, plus two each in Philosophy and Politics. Second-year studies include compulsory modules like SOTA260 (preparing students for their industry year) alongside various Philosophy and Politics electives.
Students spend their third year in a paid position relevant to their studies, applying academic knowledge in practical settings while developing professional competencies.
The final year features a PPE-specific dissertation project followed by elective modules across all three disciplines.
