Being the first UK institution to offer a RIBA-accredited Architecture degree, the University of Liverpool boasts a distinguished heritage in architectural education and research. Our teaching philosophy engages with current discussions on sustainability, climate action, equity, and inclusion, mirroring today's professional landscape. The curriculum delivers a thorough architectural grounding, requiring mastery of diverse yet interconnected fields alongside cultivating both personal and technical abilities. Successful completion leads to RIBA Part I qualification.
Annual coursework includes essential modules covering architectural history and theory, structural engineering, construction methods, and design methodologies. Environmental considerations permeate all levels of study, complemented by practice management instruction. These theoretical components integrate with studio design work, constituting half of each year's academic credits.
We foster innovative, personalized approaches to prepare for tomorrow's challenges, adapting to each student's unique talents and the growing specialization within the profession. From the outset, we cultivate creative expression - both in studio work and through personalized academic pathways.
K100 students may transition to the Design Studies BA (Hons) program in their second year (note: this alternative program lacks RIBA accreditation). This pathway focuses on critically examining design as a multifaceted historical and contemporary phenomenon across architecture, urban planning, industrial design, and visual arts.
