Introduction Every organization across all sectors must master the art of analyzing and interpreting data to uncover valuable insights that fuel innovation and deliver impactful results. Our Applied Statistics and Data Science MSc program equips you with the expertise and capabilities required to address the demands of today's data-driven world. This comprehensive program guides you from fundamental data science concepts, statistical modeling, and stochastic processes to advanced machine learning techniques and programming proficiency. You'll gain the ability to harness cutting-edge statistical and data science approaches to build systems that extract meaningful patterns from large datasets and forecast real-world scenarios. During the second semester, you'll specialize by selecting one of these focused tracks: Global Health and Epidemiology: This specialization prepares you with distinctive skills to address worldwide health issues and enhance responses to epidemiological risks. Coursework covers Infectious Disease Modeling, Spatial and Structural Heterogeneity in Disease Modeling, and Epidemiological Statistics. Machine Learning for Investment Science: This track empowers you to leverage machine learning for modeling, predicting, and analyzing global financial patterns and economic dynamics. Key modules include Quantitative Risk Management, Mathematical Finance, and Financial Machine Learning. Statistics: This pathway offers extensive knowledge of statistical applications and machine learning, combined with rigorous mathematical data science training. (Note: Requires a BSc in Mathematics, Theoretical Physics, or equivalent.) Courses feature Financial Machine Learning, Epidemiological Statistics, and Stochastic Methods in Data Science. Our dynamic program, offered by the Department of Mathematical Sciences, is taught by internationally renowned experts who combine teaching excellence with groundbreaking research addressing real-world challenges in epidemiology, financial mathematics, and beyond. The department houses the Mathematics Centre for Educational Enhancement, dedicated to developing innovative teaching approaches that ensure an engaging and effective learning experience.
