Students pursuing an MSc by Research have the opportunity to undertake self-directed investigations in their chosen psychology field, developing a thesis under the mentorship of two subject-specialist academic supervisors. The program includes tailored research methodology training and encourages active participation in the School's research community. This pathway is ideal for those seeking extensive research exposure in psychology prior to considering MPhil/PhD applications. Compared to an MPhil/PhD thesis, the MSc by Research dissertation is more concise, typically comprising one or two chapters presenting original findings. Participants may initially register for the MSc by Research and potentially transition to MPhil/PhD studies during the initial eight months. The School's vibrant research culture keeps faculty engaged with contemporary discussions and cutting-edge psychological advancements. Research activities are structured around three thematic clusters (forensic and clinical psychology, perception-action-cognition, and developmental-social behavior) and two specialized centers (autism research innovation and Lincoln sleep studies).
