Typically, students initially enroll in an MPhil program, transitioning to PhD status after two terms upon successful defense of a comprehensive research proposal during a transfer viva. This progression requires endorsement from the University's Research Committees. Each student receives guidance from a supervisory team comprising a primary supervisor (Director of Studies) and usually a secondary supervisor, while maintaining independent responsibility for their research project's development under their mentors' expert direction.
