The MPhil and PhD programs are research-focused degrees designed for individuals seeking to earn a postgraduate qualification through supervised independent original research in education, culminating in a written thesis.
Both programs follow similar structures, differing primarily in the scope and originality of research between MPhil and PhD levels. This distinction affects both study duration and thesis length - for instance, a part-time PhD generally requires 5-6 years to complete an 80,000-word dissertation. Full-time students typically complete their studies in about half the time.
The more extensive PhD program targets current or aspiring senior academic leaders, administrators in primary, secondary, or higher education institutions, as well as university faculty and researchers.
These programs cultivate essential critical analysis and research capabilities needed for advanced academic work. Participants can choose their research focus while receiving personalized guidance from an expert supervisor.
Lincoln University research students enjoy scheduled monthly supervisory meetings (bi-monthly for part-time candidates). They also have access to ongoing research methodology and skill development workshops offered by both the School of Education and the University's Doctoral School.
