The MA Criminology and Criminal Justice program pushes students to examine modern challenges confronting justice systems through dual criminological and legal lenses. Today's society faces unprecedented examination regarding its approaches to crime and victim treatment. Addressing historical sexual abuse cases, evaluating incarceration's role in punishment versus rehabilitation, and tackling transnational organized crime and terrorism have elevated criminological and legal studies to new prominence. This program provides students with theoretical frameworks to analyze these complex matters, developing critical thinking, analytical abilities, and transferable skills such as evidence assessment, data interpretation, information synthesis, and constructing logical arguments. Participants interact with criminological concepts while critically examining associated legal implications. Leveraging faculty expertise spanning social sciences and law, students explore diverse contemporary topics including criminological theories, correctional policies, counterterrorism, law enforcement practices, ecological offenses, global justice frameworks, and research methodologies relevant to both criminology and criminal law professionals.
