The Arts Foundation Year at Lincoln serves as the first year of a comprehensive four-year degree program, offering an alternative pathway to various arts-related degrees in the College of Arts. These include Animation and Visual Effects, Architecture, Graphic Design, Creative Advertising, Illustration, Interior Architecture and Design, Design for Event, Exhibition and Performance, Fashion, Fine Art, Photography, and Product Design. This interdisciplinary program, known as the Arts Foundation Year, brings students together under a shared curriculum, fostering collaborative learning across different creative disciplines. It is tailored for those who may need additional preparation for university-level studies, are undecided about their specialization, didn't achieve their expected grades, or are re-entering education. Participants explore both practical and theoretical subjects relevant to their creative fields, gaining confidence through experimental approaches, design methodologies, hands-on workshops, and critical analysis.
Lincoln's Graphic Design program cultivates skilled visual communicators, challenging them to tackle projects that demand both technical ability and creative problem-solving. The curriculum explores graphic design's societal impact, covering diverse areas like typography, advertising, branding, editorial design, artist books, packaging, interactive media, animation, film, and installations. Industry-experienced faculty, including Program Leader Barrie Tullett, maintain active professional practices, and the course maintains connections with organizations like the International Society of Typographic Designers. Students can gain real-world experience through internships at design firms, while enjoying complimentary access to Adobe Creative Cloud and LinkedIn Learning resources.
