The Arts Foundation Year at Lincoln serves as the first year of a comprehensive four-year degree, offering an alternative pathway to various arts-related programs in the College of Arts. These include Animation and Visual Effects, Architecture, Graphic Design, Creative Advertising, Illustration, Interior Architecture and Design, Design for Event, Exhibition and Performance, Fashion, Fine Art, Photography, and Product Design. The Arts Foundation Year takes an interdisciplinary approach, with all students following the same curriculum and learning together, regardless of their chosen specialization. This program is ideal for those who may need extra time to adapt to university-level studies, are undecided about their focus area, didn't achieve their expected grades, or are re-entering education. Through practical and theoretical coursework, students explore subjects relevant to their creative fields, gaining confidence via experimental techniques, design processes, hands-on workshops, and critical analysis.
Fine Art at Lincoln emphasizes the artist's role as a socially engaged practitioner, working across physical, intellectual, and digital networks while drawing inspiration from local, national, and global art communities. The program fosters creative growth by providing expert guidance and a supportive environment, encouraging students to expand their artistic practice into new realms, including public art. Participants develop professional and transferable skills while learning from faculty who are active artists and writers with notable reputations—such as Dr. Steve Klee, exhibited at LAM Gallery in Los Angeles, and Ms. Alice Tuppen, who has worked with Damien Hirst and Sir Peter Blake. The program also features guest lectures from renowned artists like Assemble (2015 Turner Prize winners), Mark Titchner, Jordan Baseman, Cath Keay, and Joshua Sofaer. Students explore contemporary art beyond traditional gallery spaces, with assessments tailored to real-world professional scenarios. The course nurtures individual creativity while introducing Live Art, installation, digital media, painting, sculpture, drawing, and printmaking.
