Our department is research-focused, conducting studies with global recognition. We collaborate closely with the NHS, uniting fundamental and clinical researchers specializing in microbiology, respiratory medicine, and immunology. Doctoral candidates undertake self-directed research projects supervised by expert teams. Typically, full-time students complete their research within 3.0-3.5 years, while part-time students have 6.0-6.5 years. An additional year (or remaining time) can be used for thesis preparation. The dissertation, capped at 50,000 words, must offer novel insights and include publishable material. Candidates must successfully defend their work in an oral examination to earn their degree.
