Our department is research-focused, conducting studies with global recognition. We collaborate closely with the NHS, uniting fundamental and clinical researchers specializing in microbiology, respiratory medicine, and immunology. PhD candidates undertake self-directed research projects supervised by expert teams. Typically, full-time students finish within 3.0-3.5 years, while part-time students take 6.0-6.5 years. An additional year (or remaining time) can be used for thesis preparation. The dissertation, capped at 50,000 words, must offer novel insights and meet publication standards. Final degree conferral requires successful defense during an oral examination (viva voce).
