Modern media surrounds us constantly, residing in our pockets, on our nightstands, and within educational spaces as media platforms evolve far beyond traditional televisions and desktop computers. Doctoral candidates undertake a self-directed research initiative with support from an advisory team. The maximum enrollment duration allowed prior to thesis submission is 4 years for full-time students or 7 years for part-time/distance learners. Typically, the active research phase (encompassing experiments, lab work, field studies, and data gathering) spans 3 to 3.5 years full-time or 6 to 6.5 years part-time. After completing active research, students may apply for a writing-up period lasting up to one year. The combined research and writing phases must not surpass the total registration limit. Theses generally shouldn't exceed 80,000 words and must demonstrate original scholarly contributions with publishable-quality work. Final degree conferral requires successful defense of the thesis during an oral examination (viva voce).
