Modern media surrounds us constantly, from our smartphones to our nightstands and educational spaces, as media platforms and usage continue evolving far beyond traditional TV sets and desktop computers. Doctoral candidates undertake an autonomous research initiative with support from an advisory panel. The maximum enrollment duration allowed prior to thesis submission is 4 years for full-time students or 7 years for part-time/distance learners. Typically, the active research phase (encompassing experiments, lab work, fieldwork, and data gathering) spans 3-3.5 years full-time or 6-6.5 years part-time/distance learning. Following active research, students may apply for a writing-up period lasting up to one year. The combined duration of active research and writing-up cannot surpass the maximum enrollment limit. Theses generally shouldn't exceed 80,000 words and must demonstrate novel scholarly contributions with publishable-caliber work. Finally, candidates must successfully defend their thesis in an oral examination (viva voce) to receive their degree.
