The University of Leicester School of Business serves as a worldwide institution cultivating future leaders, innovators, and agents of change. With more than nine decades of business education excellence, we're globally recognized for our programs in accounting, finance, management, marketing, and economics. Our collaborative efforts with business leaders and organizations to advance ethical business practices have earned us a 14th place UK ranking for research influence. Doctoral candidates undertake self-directed research projects with support from faculty advisors. The maximum enrollment duration before thesis submission is 4 years for full-time students or 7 years for part-time/distance learners. Typically, active research (encompassing experiments, lab work, fieldwork, and data gathering) spans 3-3.5 years full-time or 6-6.5 years part-time. Following active research, students may apply for a 12-month writing-up extension. The combined research and writing phases must not surpass the total registration limit. Theses are generally capped at 80,000 words and must demonstrate original scholarly contributions with publishable-quality work. Final degree conferral requires successful defense of the thesis in an oral examination.
