We are dedicated to providing top-tier undergraduate LLB and postgraduate LLM programs. As a research-focused institution, we understand the vital connection between outstanding research and exceptional teaching. Leicester Law School emphasizes research leadership, acknowledging how scholarly excellence enhances educational quality. Our research has international recognition, with faculty members regularly engaging in legal discussions and influencing policy decisions. PhD candidates undertake independent research projects with support from a supervisory team. The maximum enrollment period before thesis submission is 4 years for full-time students or 7 years for part-time/distance learners. Typically, active research (including experiments, lab work, fieldwork, and data gathering) spans 3 to 3.5 years full-time or 6 to 6.5 years part-time/distance learning. After completing active research, students may apply for a writing-up period of up to 12 months. The combined research and writing phases must not surpass the total registration limit. Theses should generally not exceed 80,000 words and must offer original insights with publishable-quality work. Finally, candidates must successfully defend their thesis in a viva voce (oral) examination to earn their degree.
