We are dedicated to providing top-tier undergraduate LLB and postgraduate LLM programs. As a research-focused institution, we understand the vital connection between outstanding research and high-quality teaching. Leicester Law School emphasizes research-led education, acknowledging how academic excellence in research enhances teaching standards. Our research has international recognition, with faculty members regularly engaging in legal discussions and influencing policy development. PhD candidates undertake an independent research initiative with support from a supervisory team. The maximum enrollment duration before thesis submission is 4 years for full-time students or 7 years for part-time/distance learners. Typically, active research (including experiments, lab work, fieldwork, and data gathering) spans 3 to 3.5 years full-time or 6 to 6.5 years part-time/distance learning. After completing active research, students may apply for a writing-up period of up to 12 months. The combined active research and writing-up phases must not surpass the maximum registration timeframe. Theses should generally not exceed 80,000 words and must offer original insights with publishable-quality content. Finally, candidates must successfully defend their thesis in a viva voce (oral) examination to earn their degree.
