Following active research, students may apply for a writing-up phase lasting up to 12 months. The combined research and writing periods must not surpass the total registration limit. The dissertation, normally capped at 80,000 words, must present novel insights and include publishable material. Final degree conferral requires successful defense of the thesis in an oral examination.
