The maximum enrollment duration before thesis submission is 4 years for full-time students or 7 years for part-time students. The active research phase (encompassing experiments, lab work, field studies, and data gathering) typically spans 3-3.5 years full-time or 6-6.5 years part-time. Following active research, students may apply for a writing-up period lasting up to one year. The combined active research and writing-up phases cannot surpass the maximum enrollment duration. Theses generally should not exceed 80,000 words and must present novel contributions to knowledge with publishable-quality work. Candidates must successfully defend their thesis in an oral examination (viva voce) to receive their degree.
