The University of Leicester School of Business serves as an international hub for developing future leaders, innovators, and agents of change. With more than nine decades of excellence in business education, we're globally recognized for our programs in accounting, finance, management, marketing, and economics. Our collaborative research with industry leaders to advance ethical business practices has earned us a 14th place ranking in the UK for research impact. Doctoral candidates undertake self-directed research projects with support from faculty supervisors, with a maximum enrollment period of four years for full-time students. The intensive research phase (encompassing experiments, lab work, field studies, and data gathering) typically spans 3 to 3.5 years full-time. Following this active research period, students may apply for a writing-up extension of up to one year. The combined duration of research and writing must not surpass the four-year limit. Doctoral dissertations are generally capped at 80,000 words and must demonstrate original scholarly contributions with publishable-quality work. Final degree conferral requires successful defense of the thesis in an oral examination (viva voce).
